Kimball Library News 11/17/14

MAKE A BOXWOOD TREE: Back by popular demand, we will be having Felicia Motherway at the library teaching the annual boxwood tree event. We are kicking off the holiday season with this ever-popular craft.  Last year not everyone that wanted to could make one, so we’re having it on two separate evenings so more of you can enjoy this wonderful activity.  On Tuesday, December 2nd from 6-8pm OR Wednesday, December 3rd from 6-8pm we are offering seats to learn how to make a beautiful fresh boxwood tree to enjoy for the holidays.

The boxwood tree is an elegant design made out of boxwood and decorated with velvet ribbon, gold glass balls, berries and natural gypsophila. This popular centerpiece will last for months and is perfect for your home or for those who want a small holiday tree to enjoy. It’s also a great gift idea. Even the lowly ‘craft-impaired’ like me will leave with a tree that looks like it was featured in Better Homes & Gardens.  Felicia does not let anyone leave who is not happy with his/her tree.

Reservations are required as each class is limited to 20 people.  Materials fee of $30.00 must be paid in advance in order for your registration to be secure.  Please sign up at the circulation desk with your cash or check made out to Felicia Motherway.  Phone registrations will not be accepted.

DROP N’ SHOPS ARE BACK:  Also back my popular demand, Kimball Library once again will be hosting three Saturdays in a row of our ever popular ‘Holiday Drop ‘n Shop’.  Mark your calendar now for the following dates and times so you can register your children for December 6, 13, and 20 from 10:30am-12:30pm.  We are definitely “Santa’s Elves” for your **kids ages 6 and up.  We’ll occupy them with fun activities while you shop or wrap gifts.  Each Saturday will host a different teacher and unique projects.  Please send them with simple snacks and spill-proof beverages.  You’ll fa la la la la all the way home!

**All 'Drop 'n Shop' participants must be at least 6 years of age to be left in the building without an adult.  Ages 6-9 must have an adult fill out a waiver on that morning to be left here in our care.  Children under 6 must be supervised by the attending caretaker.  Children ages 10 and up are allowed to stay without an adult or waiver according to library policy.  Thank you for your cooperation.  Residents only, please, for this very popular event.

Details for the first ‘Holiday Drop ‘n Shop’ on December 6 from 10:30am-12:30pm are as follows:  On the first day of ‘Drop ‘n Shop’ my true love suggested to me...  “We'll make a beautiful snowy owl for the Christmas tree and hear a winter story in-between! There's music and hot cocoa to warm your toes.  We’ll enjoy Santa crackers for a tasty treat!” Then we'll make an ice cream cone to hang up, too!  Registration is now available so don’t delay as seating is limited.

If you or your child would like to see a sample of the Saturday crafts, please drop by the library and see the projects for each week displayed in advance.  Stay tuned here each week as we keep you informed as to each Saturday event’s details.
