Kimball Library News 3/9/15

BEDTIME MATH CRAZY 8’s CLUB:  Crazy 8s is an over-the-top after-school club that’s designed to get kids fired up about math. Every week kids get to build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess...and make friendships at the same time. They will get to do mischief making activities like Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry, Bouncy Dice and Toilet Paper Olympics, and they’ll get to take home some cool gadgets, too.  It’s time for math to become the cool thing to do after school!

This particular session is for children in grades K-2, and it is running at Kimball Library on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm for consecutive sessions beginning on April 2nd through May 28th with the exception of April 30th (Timberlane vacation week).   Registration is required, and this is an 8 week commitment with one vacation week built in.  Please know that when you sign up you are committing to all 8 weeks.  This is a math curriculum that can be explored online at www.bedtimemath.org.

ESCAPE FROM MR. LEMONCELLO’S LIBRARY: Join us every THIRD Thursday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss a nominated Great Stone Face book.  The aforementioned will be discussed on Thursday, March 19th, from 6:30-7:30pm.  Crazy book chatter and snacks will be provided.  This book group is for children in grades 3-5 only.  Please register in advance!

SNAP CIRCUITS LAB:  With its easy-to-follow instructions, Snap Circuits gives your child a hands-on education in how electrical circuits work to run the everyday devices that they're familiar with. They'll also gain valuable lessons in building and in following instructions. With these projects, children will experiment with things like electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds.

Because the projects are arranged in order of complexity, kids can build on their skills as they progress through the manual. The lessons start out with a simple electric light and switch project that demonstrates how electricity is turned on and off with a switch. Further along, kids can put together a two-speed fan, create clap-controlled sounds, and more.

The lab, on Wednesday, March 25th, from 6:30-7:45pm, will give opportunity to explore and build in step by step fashion with the help of the facilitator. We have ten kits so we are allowing only ten registrations in the range of grades 3-6. Please do not register if you cannot commit to coming and hold a spot from someone else. Thanks.
