THE POWER OF FOOD:  Chef Oonagh Williams, probably known to many of you from her regular appearances on WMUR's Cooks Corner, will present The Power of Food – You are what you eat.

Food can be the best medicine for your body or the worst poison. Oonagh has a Culinary Arts Degree, trained in London & Switzerland, taught International Foods Cooking Classes, and catered for many years. Her son was diagnosed gluten & lactose intolerant 5 years ago. Oonagh has celiac disease family members and she is celiac gluten sensitive & follows a gluten free diet. Many of her students and clients are not just gluten free. She helps people with lactose, dairy, egg, yeast, soy, apple, pear and banana, rice and corn intolerances, etc.  Oonagh helps them to cook and realize there is life after a diagnosis of CD.

Chef Oonagh is not going to push a raw food diet (with NH winters, get real), or have you give up your favorite foods (as if we would want to). Chef Oonagh will help you understand how the food you commonly eat can be causing health problems - beyond high cholesterol but including arthritis, headaches, fatigue etc.
Chef Oonagh will explain:

  • the new FDA proposed food labeling
  • Is GMO a good thing?
  • soy and corn everywhere
  • How much sugar is too much sugar?
  • how about all these new cooking oils, new sugars, new grains, trans fat, hydrogenated, 'fat free'
  • And the increasing number of food allergies.
Chef Oonagh discovered when she went totally gluten free - initially because of her son - that her arthritis pains and period pains went away. Be reassured, Chef Oonagh eats real food, enjoys her chocolate, couldn't give up cheese, and doesn't follow any strange food plan.
This free event is being held on Tuesday, March 24th, from 6-8pm and is sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.  Registration is required as seating is limited.

PJ PEEPS: Make a point to bring the littles ones in with you (ages 4-8) when you come pick up the weekend movies on Friday night at 6:30pm.  Miss Emily will read a few books, have a simple activity ready, and each child gets a bedtime snack.  Now the only thing left for you to do is get them to want to leave!  Please check the calendar as we take occasional breaks (usually during Timberlane school vacation weeks).
