NEW MGOL
SECTION ADDED: On September 14th we had a record 30
children participate in the 10:30 Mother Goose on the Loose class. This was an enjoyable problem to have. In response to the large demand, we have
created a second class offering at 11:15 on Mondays. Register online or give us a call for either
the 10:30 or 11:15 session. You may join
anytime during the year. You may also call
and ask for Kathy Watson, Youth Services Director, for questions regarding this
class.
Mother Goose is a fun-filled thirty minute interactive session
that uses rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments, and more to stimulate
the learning process of babies and toddlers.
Parents, grandparents, and caretakers often linger after the session to
allow for playtime and socializing for all ages. Fostering an early delight in language could
enhance child development and build strong, healthy families.
WHY READ TO BABY? • Phonological awareness — Being able to
hear the beginning and ending sounds that make up words will help children
sound out words when they begin to read • Print motivation — Children who enjoy
books and reading will be curious about how to read and will read more • Print
awareness — Children become familiar with how books work • Vocabulary —
Children need to know the meaning of words to understand what they are reading
Bonus: There are some upcoming Mondays when we are closed or
the Monday class is unavailable due to staffing. On those weeks, a Thursday drop-in session is
available for anyone interested. Please
check the calendars for dates.
