Kimball Library News 9/28/15

TEEN BOOK DISCUSSION: Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Teens regularly meet the second Wednesday evening of each month from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss the book selected. On Wednesday, October 14th, from 6:30-7:30pm we’ll be gathering for candy and chat regarding the book “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer. All interested teenagers are welcome regardless of township.  We are very eager to make new friends!  Please ask for a copy of the current book at the front desk if you have a library card in Atkinson, Plaistow, or Sandown.

SNAP CIRCUITS LAB 101:  With its easy-to-follow instructions, Snap Circuits gives your child a hands-on education in how electrical circuits work to run the everyday devices that they're familiar with. They'll also gain valuable lessons in building and in following instructions. With these projects, children will experiment with things like electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds.

Because the projects are arranged in order of complexity, kids can build on their skills as they progress through the manual. The lessons start out with a simple electric light and switch project that demonstrates how electricity is turned on and off with a switch. Further along, kids can put together a two-speed fan, create clap-controlled sounds, and more.

The lab will give opportunity to explore and build in step by step fashion with the help of the facilitator.  Please register youth in grades 3-6 for Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30-7:30pm and get them electrified about circuits.

TOO CUTE SILLY SPIDERS: Pop into the Children’s Room and you’ll see some a sample spider that is too cute to spook!  You won't be afraid of these spiders! Come create this adorable critter using craft items and candy on Saturday, October 24th, from 12:30-1:30pm!  These awesome arachnids will delight trick-or-treaters of all ages!  This crafty event is developmentally geared for children in grades K-5. Registration is required.
