Kimball Library News 11/16/15

BOXWOOD TREE: We are kicking off the holiday season with the ever-popular boxwood tree craft.  We will once again be having Felicia Motherway at the library teaching this beautiful art. We’re having it on two separate evenings so more of you can enjoy this wonderful activity.  On Tuesday, December 1st from 6-8pm OR Wednesday, December 2nd from 6-8pm we are offering seats to learn how to make a beautiful fresh boxwood tree to enjoy for the holidays.

The boxwood tree is an elegant design made out of boxwood and decorated with velvet ribbon, gold glass balls, berries and natural gypsophila. This popular centerpiece will last for months and is perfect for your home or for those who want a small holiday tree to enjoy. It’s also a great gift idea. Even the lowly ‘craft-impaired’ will leave with a tree that looks like it was professionally done.  Felicia does not let anyone leave who is not happy with his/her tree.

Reservations are required as each class is limited to 20 people.  Materials fee of $35.00 must be paid in advance in order for your registration to be secure.  Please sign up at the circulation desk with your cash or check made out to Felicia Motherway.  Phone registrations will not be accepted.

AN HOUR OF CODE: The hour of code is a family event coming to Kimball Library via the Sylvan Center in Salem, NH as part of a movement to enrich and educate during National Computer Science Week.  You'll be virtually joining other students all over the world. Your school age child will learn some computer programming through fun and engaging activities.  Join Sylvan and Kimball Library for the movement by registering and coming to this 'BYOD Hour of Code' event on Tuesday, December 8, from 6:30-7:30pm.

There will be a total of ten devices available from the library and Sylvan, so if you have any device or gadget that you can use to connect to our public Wi-Fi, please bring it.  This will leave those for the less fortunate 'device-less' youth to use. (BYOD=BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE if possible)

This event is being held in partnership with 'Sylvan of Salem'. You can visit their website at Sylvan.Salem@sylvanlearning.com

DROP N’ SHOP on DEC 5: Start the holiday season with lots of fun for the young ones! Make a beautiful beaded snowflake for your window or to hang on your tree.  Play ‘Pass the Ornament’.  Hear some wintry stories and play ‘Slide the Ring’.  There will also be a chance to decorate cookies (to eat!). YUM!  You know it's always a good time at the Drop 'n Shop!   Registration is required and residents have priority if the event is filled
.
**All 'Drop 'n Shop' participants must be at least 6 years of age to be left without an adult. Ages 6-9 must have an adult fill out a waiver on that morning to be left here in our care. Children under 6 must be supervised by a parent or adult. Children ages 10 and up are allowed to stay without an adult or waiver according to library policy. Thank you for your cooperation.  We just want everyone to be safe.

HOLIDAY HOURS: Please note that we are closed on both Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 for a Thanksgiving hiatus.  We are open on Saturday the 28th.  Have a happy Thanksgiving!  We know that we are especially thankful for all our wonderful patrons!
