Kimball Library News 9/11/17

Did you miss the book sale on Saturday, September 23rd?  You have a last chance to scoop up some deals at the library on Monday, September 25th.  Any books and other media that has not sold on Saturday will be available by the bagful.  Stop by during the day between 10-5 and scoop up the last minutes items.  Gotta love bargains by the bagful!

STRENGTHENING TOGETHER: Strong is the new skinny!  T/weens- we have something new and exciting for you to try starting on Friday, September 29th, at 5pm!

Get a fun and vigorous workout with light weight lifting set to music. We'll try some common fitness moves such as planks and push-ups, but modifications will always been shown as well so this is a class for all experience levels.  You’ll have the opportunity to work out with your friends and parents or caregivers to music you will recognize and want to sing along to. Build muscles, endurance, and make your body stronger and healthier as well!

This strength training class is for t/weens ages 10 and up and their adult caregivers. With your participation, we hope to make this class reoccur monthly. Adults are not required to participate, but everyone will have more fun if they do :)

Please note that this will be a challenging workout for all fitness levels and ages (ages 10+) so please wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear. Bring your water bottle and don't be afraid to sweat and get strong!

YOUTH BOOK CLUBS:  FYI, we have book clubs for grades 1-12.  We request registration at all of them to help us prepare how many copies of each title to obtain and possible supplies.  Book discussions are a great way to foster a love of reading, engage in critical thinking, meet and make new literate friends, and so much more!  It’s much more likely that your children will get out of the trap of always reverting to the same old authors and genres if they will give the group setting a try.

Coming up in October: The tweens (grades 5-7) will meet on Wednesday, October 4th, at 6:30pm to discuss ‘Awkward’ by Svetland Chmakova, the teens (grades 8-12) will discuss ‘Everything Everything’ by Nicola Yoon on Wednesday, October 11th, at 6:30pm,  the Brown Bag Book Club (grades 3-4) will meet on Monday, October 16th, at 6:30pm to discuss ‘Crenshaw’ by Katherine Applegate, and Magic Tree House Book Club (grades 1-2) will meet on Wednesday, October 18th, at 5pm to talk and have activities on ‘The Knight at Dawn’ by Mary Pope Osborn.

THE MENTALIST: Please join us for an intriguing evening with mentalist, Preston Heller, on Monday, October 2nd from 6:30-8pm.

A 'mentalist' reads minds, projects thoughts to others, divines information held secret, predict results, and much more. Preston Heller's show, 'Seeing the Unseen', involves audience participation. Mentalism works best and is most entertaining when there is a spirit of cooperation between the mentalist and those in attendance. The result is always a surprising experience for the attendees and is great fun for all present. The show is filled with humor and it is 100% family friendly for ages 12 and up.

This program is free and open to the public, however, Mr. Heller kindly requests of those attending to bring an item to donate to the local food pantry (There will be a donation box in the lobby). Reservations are limited so please register ASAP each person who will be attending. Doors do not open until 6 PM.
