Kimball Library News 9/18/17

ESSENTIAL OILS AND EVERYDAY USE: Join us on Thursday, October 5th, at 6:30pm for a chance to discover (or rediscover) essential oils. This ‘Intro to Essential Oils’ class will focus on the basics of essential oils: what are they, how do they work, and what are the easy ways to incorporate them into your home to live a healthier lifestyle.  In addition, you will learn how to kick toxic chemicals out of your home with easy, simple and affordable tactics that anyone can do.  Registration is required for this ‘scent’cational event.  Don’t be left out in the dust!

PUMPKIN PIE PANCAKES:  Here is a shout-out for pumpkin pie pancakes! Have you tasted them before? They taste like fall and are pumpkiny GREAT! We’ll have them smothered in powdered sugar, covered in butter, and finished off with a mountain of whipped cream (or maple syrup)!  This delicious event for kids is happening on October 7th at 10:30am.

Just trot yourself down here and start your Saturday with the great taste of pumpkins. After all, that's what autumn is all about! YUMMY! Please register ages 4-10 so we can prepare for this special age.  Pick out a book while you're here. It's a great time for reading!

CRAZY EIGHTS MATH CLUB: Crazy 8’s is a recreational after-school math club that helps kids enjoy the math behind their favorite activities!  We're nothing like your usual math club. With Crazy 8s kids will build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret spy codes and play games like Toilet Paper Olympics. Join the fun in this 8-week program!

Register grades 3-5 for all 8 weeks beginning on Wednesday, October 11th. The club will commence on Wednesdays from 3:15-4 PM. Please do not sign up if you expect to miss more than 2 sessions. Our math club filled up previously so sign up today! Thank you for leaving room for those that can commit to the complete program.

Note- library policy allows students aged 10 and up to be in the library unsupervised. Students in this category may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the library on Math Club days.  Children younger than this may still take the bus here, but they need to have an adult in the building who is designated as their supervisor during club time.

WEEKLY ADULT PROGRAMS: We host several different recurring events for adults who have a particular interest or want to learn.  Register for Mah Jong on Mondays at 1pm or Needle Crafters on Wednesdays at 10:30am.

Mah Jong is a fun, rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards. We will teach anyone who wants to learn when 4 newbies indicate interest.  It does require some strategy as well as luck to play. A small amount of time and effort is needed to become familiar with the principles and rules of the game.

Needle Crafters sessions are for those who enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting or other forms of needle work. Please bring your own supplies.  This in an informal gathering to finish those projects started or perhaps get some ideas for beginning some new ones.  We'll cozy up in the Atkinson Room of the library, share some laughs, drop a stitch or two, and make some new friends.
All experience levels and ages welcome.  Those more experienced will teach and guide novices. You do not need to be an Atkinson resident - All are invited!

FULL S.T.E.A.M. AHEAD: We are currently full for our 6 week ‘Discovering S.T.E.A.M’ program for 3-6 year olds at 11:30 AM, but we have a new class opening up in November that is up for open enrollment.  The early bird gets the steam!  Ready, set, register now!

HOLIDAY HOURS: We will be closed on Monday, October 9th, for Columbus Day.  Please stock up accordingly and note that Overdrive NH Downloadable Books are open 24/7 as well at TumbleBooks.  Have a safe and pleasant holiday weekend.

Also, please note that Girls Who Code will not meet on Tuesdays, October 10th, as we suspect many may be away due to the professional development day at Timberlane Regional Schools.
