Kimball Library News 12/11/17

We can’t wait for you to check out our new exciting weekly program for the littles!

SENSORY STORY TIME: Join us for our NEWEST class: Sensory Story Time!  Some story times are too hard! Some classes are too easy!  We are thinking that Sensory Story Time is just right for your two or three year old who is almost ready for full story time, but may still be challenged by so much structure.

Join us for a story and a chance to engage your tactile senses with a sensory activity like play dough. This is a great opportunity to have toddlers and preschoolers practice sitting and listening for a small amount of time. There will be a teacher led story and child-directed exploration of the hands-on sensory stations.

Please register children ages 2-3. Because the focus is on building up our listening skills, we will ask adults to help us keep participants sitting and listening to the story. They will all be rewarded by the freedom to explore the activities right after!

This is a weekly session. We’ll be meeting on Wednesdays at 11:30am starting on January 17th.  Get online or call us to register now.  Once registered, participants are signed up for remainder of the school year. Please check the calendar for cancellations due to holidays and other events.
We look forward to getting our hands sticky and gooey with your little ones!

TINY HOUSES: Have you ever heard of a ‘Tiny House’? (And we don’t mean for elves!) You will get your chance to get an education on ‘Tiny Houses: A Very Different Approach to Home Ownership’ on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 starting at 6:30pm.

Come and hear about the basics of planning for and owning a tiny house on wheels; both its challenges and advantages. Witness insights unique from the currently popular tiny house themed television shows. Learn about 'how much' to 'where to live', options for general design, and heat, hot water and electricity choices, among other components. Living in a tiny house year-round is a topic of rapidly developing debate. Learn why something so 'cute' and compact could cause so much discussion!

Presenter's Bio:  Isa is the Project Manager and lead designer from Tiny House Northeast, a New England and upper NY State tiny house design-build business. Isa earned a M.A. in Regional Economic and Social Development with a concentration in Sustainable Development, including green building materials and construction methods research. Isa has owned a tiny house since she was 19-years old, as do several of the Tiny House Northeast team.

Registration is required. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.

HOLIDAY HOURS: The library will be closed on Monday, December 25th, for Christmas, and on Monday, January 1st, for New Year’s Day.  Please also take note that regularly scheduled preschool programs such as Mother Goose on the Loose, Bitty Books, Discovering S.T.E.A.M., and Kiddie Lit will be on holiday break the last week of December.  Classes will resume their normal schedule starting back in January of 2018.  We wish you all a peaceful and wonderful holiday season!
