Kimball Library News 11/18/19

Join us after school as we commemorate Computer Science Education Week by learning some basic coding skills. Kids in grades 1-5 are invited to come to the library after school to try out some kid-appropriate coding programs. Students will have the option to work individually or cooperatively on coding projects. We will be focusing on Scratch, a visual programming language geared towards kids. This program will be self-paced so there will be lots of time for exploration. All levels of coding experience are welcome!

Youth may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the library if parents make arrangements with pick-up patrol. (The library is not taking responsibility for transportation, we are only letting you know that there is a bus that stops here.)  If kids come directly after school on the bus we encourage packing a small snack for them.

There are two dates to choose from.  You may register your child for one or both times.  Select December 11 or December 13 from 3:15-4:30 PM.  The bus drops off at approximately 3:18.  Kids coming right from school are always hungry so please pack them a small brain food.  😊

Please note that completion of drop-off waiver by an adult caregiver is required BEFORE any student under age 10 can participate in this program without an adult caregiver present in the building.

KIDS COOK TONIGHT: It's that time again! Cooking is fun for everybody so why not join us for laughs, fun and FOOD? You're making it yourself of course! It will be absolutely delicious so come for a great night of cooking together on Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 PM. We predict you’ll want to eat every last bite while you're here. So, don your chef hats and aprons and come learn to cook in community. Parents, register children in grades three to five and let us know if there are any food allergies to consider.

PATRON REQUESTED SERVICE: Want to make a library donation, use the copier or fax machine, pay a late fine etc. but forgot your check book or cash at home? We now offer a credit card payment service. We will be able to accept MasterCard, Discover, Visa, American Express and JCB. A debit card is processed as a credit card only if the card has a MasterCard, Visa, Amex or Discover logo present. Please Note: There are additional fees to cover the cost of the credit card processing company fees with a $1.50 minimum. These fees go directly to our third party processor and are not retained by the library. Convenience fees cannot be refunded. Just call or stop by the front circulation desk for details on this new patron requested service.

UPCOMING DECEMBER FILMS: It’s Tuesday at the movies.  Join us for free films and popcorn.  The next upcoming films include –

The Goldfinch ~ December 3rd:  This is the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed bestseller. One 13-year-old boy’s life is destroyed in a matter of seconds when his mother perishes in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Afterward, he is forced to start his life over. Placed with a wealthy family, he grows up in the shadow of the horrific tragedy that transformed his world. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love.

Gifted ~ December 10th:  Frank Adler is a single man raising his spirited 7-year-old niece and child prodigy Mary.  He plans to give her a normal school experience in their home town in Florida.  Mary’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn who has her own idea of how things should be and plans for Mary’s future. What does Mary want is the question.

Downton Abbey ~ December 17th:  The beloved characters of Downton Abbey take to the big screen, and it turns out that they’ve got a major event to prepare for. After all, it’s not every day that royalty makes an appearance. Of course, it’s not long before tensions are running high. The property isn’t even close to ready when it becomes clear that Carson the butler will need to come out of retirement to help run this sinking ship before it’s too late.

Popcorn will not be served for this showing.  Instead join us starting at 12:15 for Tea and Cookies.  Feel free to dress in your Downton Abbey attire.  The movie will start at 1:00. Help us plan and register for the Downton Abbey movie.
