Kimball Library News 11/25/19

Want to tackle the holidays head on?  Register for ‘Appetizers for the Holidays Challenge’ happening at 6:30 PM on Monday, 12/16/2019.  This will be in conjunction with the ‘Healthy Cookbook Club’, but you do not have to be a cookbook club member to participate in this event as all are welcome to attend.
We will be using Kimball Library healthy cookbooks, magazines and on-line magazines from Overdrive. Browse our Kimball collection and online resources and choose a 'Yummy' appetizer to try out at home and then make some extra to share with the group.

Bring samples to share and include copies of the recipe so others can go home and recreate your delightful appetizer at home. Just think how you will 'WOW' your friends and family when you bring a delicious 'new and healthy' appetizer to your next holiday get-together.
Registration is required. If you need help with Overdrive downloadable magazines just stop by and we can help you out. There will be some holiday magazines and books set aside at the circulation desk to help you in your search as well.

HOLIDAY GIFT WRAPPING: Kimball Library is throwing a gift-wrapping extravaganza!! Youth ages 10 and up are welcome to drop in at the library on Monday, 12/23/2019 between 5:30 and 7:30 PM. Bring your unwrapped gifts for family and friends to the library and wrap them here. We will provide all wrapping supplies and the holiday cheer! Bring friends along with you and have fun as you wrap presents together! Come for a short time or stay the whole 2 hours.

Please register so we can ensure we have supplies for everyone! Register a friend to come with you!

HOME WITH CHROME: Take the bus on Mondays and plan to spend time doing homework using either your own Chromebook or one of ours. Ages 10+ under library policy do not need a parent to accompany them so youth in that category may come and hang out in the Teen Room to use *Chromebooks and get homework done.

Supervision will be intermittent. We will assist with homework questions to the best of our ability but we are NOT tutors or task masters. This space is for tweens and teens who are mostly self-directed and need an environment away from home to get homework done and would enjoy hanging with peers. (This is an especially great idea for 5th graders who will be using Chromebooks daily starting in middle school and we will assist with getting them familiar with the device.) Feel at 'home with Chrome'!

Youth may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the library if parents make arrangements with pick-up patrol or from the Timberlane Regional Middle or High School. (The library is not taking responsibility for the transportation, we are only letting you know that there is a bus that stops here.) Please pack them an extra snack that they can have when they arrive.

Please register ages 10 and up and start your t/weens week off right by getting homework done with fun! They can come every Monday we are open or intermittently. They can actually come any day, but supervision cannot be an expectation other than Mondays.

*The awesome Lenovo Chromebooks were generously donated by The Greater Salem Rotary Club! We couldn’t be more grateful!

SPECIAL HOURS: Due to the holiday season we will have some special hours in December.  Please be aware that on December 24th (Christmas Eve) we will be OPEN from 10-2 only.  We will be CLOSED on December 25th (Christmas Day). We will be OPEN December 31st (New Year’s Eve) from 10-3 only.   We will be CLOSED on January 1st. Overdrive Downloadable Books, the Libby App, Kanopy, and Hoopla are open 24/7 with a library card in good standing.

Happy holidays to the best patrons in the world!
