Kimball Library News 1/25/21

We are happy to announce that the Kimball Library will reopen to the public for in-person browsing on Monday, January 25, 2021. As always, we are stocked with new and exciting materials and are looking forward to opening our doors wide again!

Our first priority is your safety and that of the staff. Therefore, strict social distancing and masks will be required. Take Out service will continue and contactless printing and faxing is now an additional option. The Conference and Study Room will be open for groups of 4 and 2 respectively. In order to preserve social distancing, programs will continue to be virtual.

The Library will continue to operate its full schedule: Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. Returns must continue to be placed in the drops so that they can be quarantined for 72 hours.

MISA’S CLEAN KITCHEN: Looking for nutrient-dense food options for your family? Want your children to have fun in the kitchen, while developing life-long kitchen skills? Please join Misa, from Misa's Clean Kitchen, in baking simple and delicious food, free of gluten, dairy, and processed sugar. Class will take place via Zoom with Kimball Library on Wednesday, February 10 at 4:30 PM. This family fun event is recommended for preschool and elementary aged children with adult supervision. Advance registration is required.

The following lists are what is required to bring to class. The full recipe details will be sent to the participants after the fact.

INGREDIENTS: 2 small sweet potatoes baked, 1 large ripe banana, 3 eggs, 1 cup full-fat canned coconut milk (or milk of choice), 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2/3 cup shredded coconut, unsweetened, 2/3 cups chopped nuts, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 2 teaspoons cinnamon and a pinch sea salt.

TOOLS NEEDED:  8' x 8' baking dish, Mixing bowl, Mixing spoon, Masher, Measuring cups and spoons, and Coconut oil to grease the pan (or oil of choice).

ADVANCED PREPARATION: Bake the sweet potatoes in the oven at 400 F until you can easily poke it with a fork. You could also microwave them until soft.

MINDFULNESS DURING UNCERTAINTY: Mindfulness meditation is paying attention to the present moment, noticing what's happening around you and in you, including thoughts and feelings, without judging them. Accepting things the way they are, including ourselves. Join us as we discuss how to implement the practice of Mindfulness during times of uncertainty and fear. Learn a simple technique for including emotions in your mindfulness practice. Learning to relate skillfully with your emotions, especially the difficult ones can help you navigate uncertainty and cultivate self-care.

Regardless, if you have never tried Mindfulness or are just looking for a way to jump back into the practice, you are invited to join us. Register for your Zoom link today for this thought-provoking event on February 18 at 6:30 PM that is sponsored by our generous Friends of Kimball Library.

About the instructor: Liz Korabek-Emerson is a certified mindfulness teacher, transformational workshop leader and creative coach dedicated to helping people become more resilient in their workplaces, homes and communities.
