Kimball Library News 2/13/22

Vacation week is just around the corner! If you will be enjoying a ‘stay-cation’, your first order of business is to check out the exciting events below and sign the kids up. Educational, creative, and fun times are just around the corner. Stay-cation starts at the Kimball Library!

KATIE’S CRAFTERNOON
: The rose window is a beautiful circular design used particularly in medieval churches. They use geometric shapes and stained glass to make beautiful works of art, the most famous of which can be seen in the Notre Dame cathedral. In this class, we will be designing and creating our very own out of tissue and construction paper. Hang it in your window and enjoy the dazzling light as it shines through your very own creation! Register grades 2-6 for Monday, February 28th, at 1:00 PM.

TREEHOUSE STEM: If you could design your own house, what would it look like? Now’s your chance to try! Want to add a room for your friends? Create a separate level! Steps and stairs too boring? Make a slide! We will be using common household items to create our designs. Miss Katie will show you how to make a basic design, but the rest is up to you! Your only limitation is your own imagination! Register grades two through five for Monday, February 28th, at 3:00 PM.

BIRD IN A CAGE: Littles ages in pre-kindergarten through grade one are invited to make crafty birdcages with us. It’s always fun to craft with Mrs. Birr who is the queen of paper crafting. Register the littles for Tuesday, March 1st, at 10:30 AM.

FAMILY MOVIE
: Grab your kids and head down to the Library to watch a beautiful family film.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

Register all ages for Tuesday, March 1st, at 1:00 PM. Children under 10 must have a parent in the building.

BALANCE BIRD STEM: This STEM program is all about BALANCE! Miss Katie will teach you how to make a Balance Bird out of common household materials and we’ll even test it out to see what it can balance on! After, we will spend our time testing other balancing equipment. This activity is geared for ages 3-6 and registration is required. Hope to see you on Wednesday, March 2nd, at 1:00 PM.

ANIME ANTICS: We're hosting a movie afternoon for all anime and manga fans. Even if you don't know what that means, this is the time to try it out! Bring your bestie and join us as we watch a classic anime movie. We will also have some crafting and snacking options to go through as we watch. How can you go wrong? Sign up ASAP so we can plan all the awesome snacks and crafts. Register ages 10+ for March 2nd, at 4:00 PM.

The movie is ‘Spirited Away’. Rating: PG Runtime: 2hr 5 min

During her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.

T/WEEN BOOK DISCUSSION
: Join the most chill t/weens and chat with us about this book! Copies are available for the asking. We serve candy and the coolest conversation. Register yourself and your friends. This month the club is on March 2nd, at 6:00 PM. Be SUPER COOL and come for Anime and stay for book club!

The book of the month is 'One of us is Lying' by Karen McManus. Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

KID COLLAGES: Grades K-5 are welcome to join us to craft with Mrs. Birr who is the collage queen. Paste away using cloth, paper, string, pictures from magazines of fun things you may find to stick on your paper. Go home with a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork! Register for Thursday, March 3rd, at 3:30 PM.

BINGO FOR BOOKS
: It's time for BINGO! Try your luck and take home our 'gently ' donated books! Kids can join in the fun and parents can help the younger ones who may want to play, too. Register now for a good time and a new book! This activity is geared for all children old enough to sit through a game. Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 3rd, at 6:00 PM.

UNICORN SENSORY STORYTIME
: Come for a Unicorn-Tastic time! Similar to our usual Sensory Storytime, Miss Katie will be reading a book and leading a finger play, then we will convene to the barn for some fun unicorn-themed sensory play! The stations will remain open for an hour, so the littles may linger and play as long as they like. Please register children ages 3-6 for Friday, March 4th, at 11:00 AM to not miss ANY of the fun.

CREATIVE CRAFTING: We’re getting closer and closer to warmer weather, so how can you get into the spring spirit? Decorate your own unicorn flower pot, of course! Miss Katie has all kinds of fun things you can use to accessorize your planter, so come on in and get creative. We’ll even send you home with your own sunflower seeds to plant in them after the class. Register youth in grades K-5 for Friday, March 4th, at 1:00 PM to get in a creative spring mood.

BABSON FINANCIAL LITERACY PROJECT LIBRARY WORKSHOPS: Jumpstart Your Financial Future! This will be a four-workshop series geared to students in high school, college and young professionals. (Ages 17 - 30)
