Kimball Library News 6/4/23

Get out your calendar because we have so many summer activities planned for so many different ages!

ALL TOGETHER BUBBLES with Melissa Bormann: Register and join us for a spectacular bubble show in the Library Courtyard on Monday, June 26th at 6:00 PM! You will be amazed at the shapes, sizes and quantities of bubbles! It's time for some bubble love to connect with the summer theme of kindness, friendship, and unity. Melissa has spent the last few years building her vast collection of bubble props to bring you an unforgettable experience.

About the Artist: Melissa is an entertainer, actor, teacher, singer, and bubbleologist captivating audiences with her bubble magic, bringing her signature energy to all aspects of her shows.

This is an "All Together Now" Summer Reading event sponsored by our amazing Friends of Kimball Library.

ALL TOGETHER CUPCAKE WARS: Teens and tweens, THIS MEANS WAR!  (FRIENDLY war. :)

T/weens (Grade 5+) are welcome to participate. Please bake your own cupcakes in advance, and practice your decorating in the days prior if you choose.

As the event starts, you will have 30 minutes to frost and decorate your three cupcakes in any way you choose. The theme is "ALL TOGETHER NOW" named after the 2023 Summer Reading Theme. A small prize will be awarded. There is only one winner so you cannot compete in pairs.

PARTICIPATION RULES~

1. Anyone can participate who is entering grades 5-12 in the fall.
2. Each participant must prepare 6 UN-decorated cupcakes prior to the event. You must bring all your decorating tools and the supplies that you will need. Cupcakes can be from a box mix, from scratch, or a combination. More effort will please the judges.
3. At the event, you'll have 30 minutes to decorate 3 cupcakes. (You bring 6 in case you make a goof.) The judges will be cutting ONE of your best 3 to taste. The other two will be put on 'display.'
4. Cupcake participants will judge the final results on presentation, creativity, effort, taste, and how well the cupcakes fit the theme 'ALL TOGETHER NOW' in anticipation of Summer Reading events!
5. Because of Covid, we are reluctant to have participants share their cupcakes with anyone other than the judges in the Library. We are sad about this, too.

PARENTS: This event is FOR t/weens. Please allow them to do their own baking with minimal supervision (we understand about ovens!) This should be friendly, fun, and not fiercely competitive. The joy is in the journey!

ROCKY SHORES with UNH Docents: The UNH Docents are back - this time with their program Rocky Shores!

Spanning the area between the low and high tide lines, the intertidal zone of the rocky shore of the New England seacoast is an ecological treasure trove of organisms whose survival is challenged by a variety of extreme conditions including crashing waves, hours of exposure to air, temperature and salinity fluctuations, and predation from both land and sea. Yet even in these conditions, there is a rich variety of marine organisms that have adapted well to this ecosystem.

Children entering grades 1-5 in the fall are invited to register join us to learn all about these special ecosystems taking place on Tuesday, June 27th at 4:00 PM.
