Kimball Library News 7/20/10

Do the teens and tweens in the “Make Waves” summer reading program ever long for the good old days of Play dough, ‘go fish’, paint-by-number, glue stick collages, coloring books, and Chutes and Ladders? It’s ‘Nostalgia Night’ for them on Wednesday, July 28, at 6:30pm. We are going to take a trip down Memory Lane and do some of those ‘little kid’ activities that we’ve been too busy or mature to play lately and reminisce about the simpler times before we had braces, advanced placement classes, jobs, or acne. MAKE WAVES, register and attend, and you'll receive a raffle ticket toward the summer reading prize jar.

The burning question of August 3 is ‘WILL THE TEEN LIBRARIAN BE BLUE?’ The teens were challenged to have at least 60 registrations and 600 tickets in the jar (tickets are obtained by reading and participating in programs) by July 31. IF they win, the teen librarian will be sporting blue hair on a special evening. Put on your cowboy hat and boots and join us for an old fashioned “Hootenanny at the Kimball Library”. Get in the yee-haw groove and learn to square dance. We’ll have games such as a ‘Whoopie Pie Walk’ and face painting fun. Hotdogs with all the fixins’ will be served. The fun starts at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 3. The first 50 kids will get a free cowboy hat! The square dancing demo is at 6:30pm with lessons to follow. Mark the date now and dig out your bandanna. Spread the word by talkin’ because the library will be rockin’ from 5-8pm!

The summer reading program is coming to a close, but we are going out with a bang – literally! Be sure to drop by on Wednesday, August 4, for the ‘Summer Water Rocket Launch.’ Our summer program ‘Make a Splash-READ!’ will be finishing with a bang of an ending thanks to Mad Science of southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts for this special presentation. Mad Science is “Sparking Imaginative Learning in Science for Children ages 5-12.” You might want to bring a towel! You might get wet, and it is somewhat likely that you will.

Reminder: ALL summer reading program participants (Make a Splash OR Make Waves) are invited for ice cream sundaes at 1pm on Thursday, August 5.
