Kimball Library News 7/13/10

Wow. The summer reading program time of year flies by. As of this writing, there are over 350 tickets in the teen summer reading jar. Do you think they will make the teen librarian go blue with the necessary 600? As for the younger set, they have already read over 28,000 minutes! Woo-hoo! Here is your reminder that the absolute last day to record books, minutes, or submit raffle tickets is July 30. You still have time to earn prizes so ‘Go go go go go!’

A merry time for all ages is just around the corner as summer reading comes to close. We are excited to be hosting a ‘hoedown’ technically, but hootenanny is such a fun word that we are labeling it as such. Put on your cowboy hat and boots and join us for an old fashion “Hootenanny at the Kimball Library”. Get in the yee-haw groove and learn to square dance. We’ll have games such as a ‘Whoopie Pie Walk’ and more... Hotdogs with all the fixins will be served. The fun starts at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 3. The first 50 kids will get a free cowboy hat! Mark the date now and dig out your bandanna. Spread the word by talkin’ because the library will be rockin’ from 5-8pm!

While you’re digging around for your hoedown attire, dig out the books you want to discard. Kimball Library accepts book donations year round, but twice a year we urge you to especially clear out what you no longer want and bring them in to us. The Fall Town-wide Yard Sale will be taking place on September 25 and we’d like to have a large selection for folks to peruse and purchase. These items take some time to be sorted through which is why we are asking for them this early. We accept books, music, and DVDs in good condition. Please be sure books are not moldy or damaged and that music and movies are playable the entire way through. We do not accept any magazines, text books, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest condensed books. When we receive your donation, we first sort through to see if we’d like to add any of the items to our collection. If we don’t add the item(s) to our collection, we then decide if it is to be sold or to be transferred to “Got Books.” Please take care to recycle your unwanted items by helping the environment and your local library. Donations can be received during open hours from Monday-Friday (10-8) and Saturday (10-3). If you have large amounts of materials, please call ahead so we can be sure to assist you.
