Kimball Library News 6/22/10

The teens have taken off in a valiant effort to make the teen librarian dye her hair blue! 60 registrations and 600 tickets in the summer reading jar was the goal by July 30th. As of the writing date of this article over 60 teens are currently registered and reading. Can they get 600 in the jar? Time, effort, and participation will tell. Just in case, the teen librarian has a hair appointment scheduled for Wednesday, August 4th. Janet Porter of Online Hair Salon will be donating her service of making the hair blue if the teens succeed.
A way for the teens to earn tickets for the jar is not only by reading, but also by registering in advance and then participating in teen programs. Opportunities on the horizon include upcoming book discussions (middle school grades will meet on July 7, high school grades on July 14) at 6:30pm to nosh and talk about ‘Island of the Aunts’ by Eva Ibbotson. On July 6 from 6:30-7:30pm there is time to make watercolor art cards for book recommendations for the teen area. Keep checking the online calendar to register in advance for programs.

Children need to come on Wednesday, July 7 at 4pm and ‘Make Waves!’ like the pirates. Try the school of fish questions and have 'cool' fish from the sea to eat. (That's what pirates would do!) It also will be fun making Popsicle stick boats. The official boat racing takes place July 21-Wed, at 4:00pm outside on the water! There will be prizes on the day of the racing.

Need a book or a movie for the weekend and you didn’t make it in during the week? Here is a reminder that we are open every Saturday during the year until 3pm so stop in and stock up. Upcoming is Monday, July 5, (Independence Day observed) and on that date we will be closed so you’ll get to keep movies taken out on Friday, July 2, until Tuesday, July 6. As always, we wish you a safe and pleasant holiday.
