Kimball Library News 1/11/11

Please note the CHANGE OF DATE for the ‘Jack Frost Jamboree’! This event will take place on Saturday, January 29nd, from 10:30am-2:30pm. The library is being transformed into a mini golf course with nine wacky holes to try. Other events include a snowball walk, snowshoe demonstrations (11am-12pm), winter crafts, face painting, an option to participate in hat and mitten donations for Ruth’s House in Haverhill, MA, and refreshments including hot dogs (served 11:30am-1:30pm) and popcorn (served 11am-2pm). Think winter carnival with a twist. Save the 29th!

Please note the CHANGE OF SUBMISSION DATE regarding our “Salvaged Snow Sculpture Contest”. Any age is eligible to participate in creating a wintry ‘nipping at your nose ’sculpture all out of ‘go green’ material. Contest rules and sample entries are available in the Children’s Room. All entries must be in the library by 8pm on January 28, and voting will take place on January 29 by the public.

Please note the CULTURAL CHANGE you can experience at the library on Tuesday, January 25, from 7-8pm. Buckle your seatbelt and be prepared to soar to Southern Africa (Botswana, Zambia, Namimbia and South Africa). Library Director, Diane Heer, will present a slide show of her recent trip to Southern Africa. Come and see the beautiful balance between the wildlife, the landscapes and cultures of Southern Africa. Places you will visit: Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls (one of the seven natural wonders of the world), Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta, qnd Moremi Game Reserve. Isn’t it time you got out of the house?

Please note the TEEN THURSDAY CHANGE for this year. We are asking that you register for each Thursday event that you’d like to attend. All events are listed on the website on the online calendar. Take note that in general Thursdays will look like this:
*1st Thursdays – WII games (ages 10 and up)
*2nd Thursdays – Teen Focus (Study with help)
*3rd Thursdays – TAG (Teen Advisory Group) Help plan teen events and choose teen materials.
*4th Thursdays – Teen Focus (Study with help)

Second and fourth Thursdays are a great time to have the teen librarian or another set of eyes viewing your papers, listen to your presentations, or grill you in studies you have prepared flashcards for. Seize the opportunity and make a positive change in your school focus for 2011.
