Kimball Library News 5/24/11

Meet the artist! Don Whittemore will present a slide show on his technique and acrylic artwork. This presentation will take place in the meeting room on Tuesday, June 14th, from 7-8pm. His artwork is on display in the library meeting room from May 17th through June 20th. You can see his paintings and processes via internet on his art website at www.donesfineart.com.

Meet the Children’s Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme ‘One World, Many Stories’ will give kids opportunity to travel around the world. There will be weekly programs with different countries as the theme. Travel the world with us as we enjoy the customs, art, stories and great food from faraway places! Registration is starting June 23. Most events require early registration so please check the online calendar in advance. The children’s reading program is geared for children entering kindergarten through entering grade 5.

Meet the Teen Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme ‘You are Here’ compliments the children’s theme. Teens will have the opportunity to read for raffle prizes, attend programs that are multi-cultural and theme-centered, and if enough teens register and play they will ‘Tat the Teen Librarian’ on August 2. The teen summer reading program is geared for youth entering grade six up through age 19. We are only leaking a little of the info now, but please visit our website for details on each program. Teen registration begins on Tuesday, June 21. Register early, starting reading, and win!

The “Summer Reading KICK-OFF” event on Saturday, June 25th, is for all ages, needs registration in advance, and you can do that starting June 3. Bonjour! We're headed for France, the first stop on the tour of 5 world countries. There will be crepes to eat. (Wear your beret or mustache or anything sparkling!) Also on the docket is an Eiffel Tower building project to complete, and a little French cinema to enjoy! REGISTER EARLY. This Kick-Off is open to all children and teens who will be participating in the children’s or teen summer reading program at the Kimball Library. Ages 5-19 are welcome. (Teens—you are never too old for crepes, crafts, and the cinema!) The cut-off date for signing up will be Friday, June 24th at 12:00 noon for this particular event. Hope to see you there!

New this year for summer reading is that not only is registration required at each program, but also, registration will close 24 hours before the start time. We want to ensure that we have enough supplies for all of the kids and teens participating. Keep up with the website calendar as well as the weekly articles as you won’t want to miss out.
