Kimball Library News 6/28/11

‘Kimball Library Writing Group’ is a fairly new group that meets on the second Monday of the month. In July the focus will be on military stories. This does not have to be first-hand experience with the military but should have a military theme. Each writing session will be facilitated. The writing theme will be different each month and decided on by the members of the group. All are invited to come on Monday, July 11th, from 6:30-8pm. This is a judgment free zone for writers of all levels.

Do we have any budding chefs entering grade 6 up through age 19? The ‘You are Here’ teen summer reading event on Tuesday, July 12, from 6:30-9pm is an opportunity to show off your cooking/assembling skills and see a cooking movie. The 'No-Bake, Bake-Off!' rules are simple. You can either make a drink, an appetizer or dessert. It has to be primarily made in the library and you can use the microwave to heat up your creation. If you want to do some prep at home that is acceptable. You may bring in your own blender. You have thirty minutes to create your entry. You may work alone or with a partner, and you must be sure to bring everything you need for materials. The judges will use presentation, creativity and tastiness as their criteria and rate each category on a scale of 1-5. At the end of the competition, the highest score wins a 'cheap and worthless' prize. After the contest we'll watch a cooking movie. Teens who do not want to be in the contest, but want to just watch the movie are welcome and vice-versa. The movie will start after the contest around 7:15pm, and there are rats and culinary adventures. Please register yourself and your friends.

‘KnitOwls’ is a NEW knitting group that meets on Thursday evenings starting July 14th. The two morning knitting groups are such a success that the night owls want a slot for themselves. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter, come join the fun and learn together. Please bring your own supplies. This is an informal gathering to finish those unfinished projects or perhaps get some new ideas for beginning some novel ones. You’ll share some laughs, drop a stitch or two, and make some new friends. All experience levels and ages welcome.

'One World, Many Stories' on Thursday, July 14th, from 4:00-5:00pm is heading to ‘Away We Go to Mexico!’ Hola! From ancient cultures, colorful celebrations and delicious food, there's always something new and interesting to find out about Mexico! You will be able to create Mexican foil art, color with markers, and then add beads. Won’t it be fun to eat tasty Mexican foods and play a Mexican game? This is a Summer Reading Program where kids ages 5-10 are included. Registration closes Wednesday, July 13th, at 5:00pm.
