Kimball Library News 7/19/11

Do you enjoy bowling? Join in with some fun-loving adults on Fridays from 10:30am-12pm as they compete in Wii bowling. You may attend any or all of these gatherings and may participate as a soloist or be part of a team. No registration is necessary and it’s all in good fun. Feel free to just stop by as an onlooker, but we’re sure you’ll be coaxed into playing a string or two.

Do you enjoy ice cream? The Summer Reading Finale of 'One World, Many Stories' and 'You are Here!' will be HERE on Thursday, August 4, from 6:30-7:30pm. All summer reading registrants are welcome to register (again) for this final event. All kids taking part in the event are invited to sample tastes around the globe with 'Droppings for Toppings' and other such nonsense. Participation Certificates will be distributed to the younger set as well as final raffles. Teens may enjoy more cheap and worthless prizes as well as ice cream sundaes. Please note that we plan to close registration by 4pm on August 3 for planning purposes and we’d hate for you to be left out.

Do you enjoy writing? ‘Writers Ink’ meets on the second Monday of the month. In August the theme is ‘a pivotal moment.’ The writing theme will be different each month and decided on by the members of the group. All are invited to come on Monday, August 8th, from 6:30-8pm. This is a judgment free zone for writers of all levels. Registration is not required. Show up with your own writing materials.

Do you enjoy knitting? We have opportunities galore! Join the KnitWits on either Tuesdays or Fridays from 10:30am-12pm, or join the newly formed ‘KnitOwls’ on Thursdays nights from 6:30-8pm. You may attend any or all of these gatherings. No registration is necessary.

Do you enjoy discussing books? We have two adult groups that meet at regularly scheduled times. The larks meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 10:15am. The owls meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6pm. Please call the library or just drop in and ask for the next book for each discussion. Both groups welcome newcomers year round.

We also have discussions for kids and teens, and there is one right around the corner. On Wednesday, August 10th, we are having a summer combo for teens and tweens (ages 11-19). We’ll be discussing “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton at 6:30pm, and then we’ll be putting the film on at 7:20pm. Pick-up is at 9pm. Please register and plan to come. The teen librarian will put out the candy bowl.
