Kimball Library News 3/13/12

Have you been checking out our new online catalog that features all the materials from each library in the SNLC (Southern New Hampshire Library Cooperative)? Please note that if you want to view your account information you need to log in (your 14 digit library card number is your username) as well as sign in with a password. Your default password to start with is your last name beginning with a capital letter. Once you have logged in the first time you can alter your password for more security. Also take note that, unlike in the past, the museum pass system as well as NH downloadable books are linked to your main account. This means is that you will be unable to use these other features if your account has not been renewed since we started (Feb 13th) and/or if you are over the $15 limit in fines. Your museum pass password is the same as your library password.

Something to look for regarding the catalog is a feature called ‘LISTS’ that is available on the main page of the catalog. (Look for the blue link to the right of the ‘cart’.) We are updating the lists fairly regularly so you can see in order some of the most newly acquired materials from some of these categories—fiction, movies, biographies, audiobooks, teen fiction, music, and nonfiction. Some of these items may still be ‘on order’ but even so you will be able to directly place holds on them from the comfort of your own home or wherever you access us. Please do not hesitate to call us or drop by for a private tutorial if you have any issues accessing your account, placing holds, renewing items, etc. We want you to feel capable and confident to easily get the items you desire.

We are continuing to offer “Turn it ON” (tech tutorials) on a registration only basis for those who need assistance with gadgets looking for access to downloadable books. If you talk to Kathy Watson directly (gadget girl) she is also willing to take appointments for those needing assistance with anything pertaining to our catalog – logging in, searching, placing holds, reserving museum passes, etc. You may have a tutorial for that as well. We currently offer Wednesday nights and Friday mornings on the online calendar—click on the hand icon to register. If these times and dates are impossible for you, Kathy may be willing to accommodate.

We are into our spring classes and events for youth. If the Kiddie Lit or Book Babies are not full, you may join them mid-session. We also have drop-in events. Library Buddies and the March Create & Express Classes are currently full. Please eheck the online calendar because events are continually being added.

Speaking of new events, here at Kimball kids can prepare tasty afternoon snacks and share picture books that tie in with the theme of the food at our newest class – Cook the Books! Children ages 5 and up can register for this class that will take place on Monday, March 19th, from 4-5pm. Look for more of these classes on the third Monday of the month. Bon appétit!
