Kimball Library News 3/6/12

It’s time to “Button Up NH” on Saturday, March 24th, between 10am and 12pm. Take advantage of free advanced home energy workshops sponsored by the Atkinson Energy Commission, Atkinson Lions Club, Representative Jim Garrity, and Kimball Library. Come and glean information on weatherization do-it-yourself project tips, understanding of related health and safety issues, tips on working with an energy professional, and technical and financial resources. The workshops are conducted by Building Performance Institute [BPI] Certified Energy Professions. There will be energy-saving prize drawings! Visit the website myenergyplan.net/buttonup or contact mveasey@msn.com for more information. The workshops are free and open to the public thanks to funding by the NH Office of Energy and Planning from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Here’s your big push reminder to check out all our March and April activities for youth. We have classes for babies, toddlers, and preschool during school hours. We have library buddies and art classes for elementary age children after school. We have special events such as movies, cooking, and reader dog therapy sessions intermittently. Take a look on our website on the calendar link. Many of our events have required registration and you can sign up once for an entire session. Don’t wait and be late!

We all know that books plus friends plus pizza definitely go together! Try out our youngest book discussion for grades 2-4 on Monday, March 26, from 5:30-6:30pm. How about sharing that great book you've just finished or one you've read awhile ago? Sometimes we read a book we hate to put down and we have to tell everybody about it so they can read it too! March 26th will be the evening to book talk a favorite read to your friends and have a great snack at the same time. Everybody brings a book, and everyone takes a turn talking about their book. Then we'll vote on the favorite for the night. It might be one that you'll love to read next, and we'll feature it in the library as the one we all liked the best. It's a great night for pizza and books. Please register now so we know how much food to plan. Invite your friends to register with you. The more the merrier!

She’s finally back! Lady Hawke, our reading dog, has been on a medical leave for months and she’s finally well enough to return to her reading corner here at Kimball Library once a month. Hawke visits us on the third Wednesday of each month. This month that happens to be on March 21st. She loves to hear the children read to her. She is patient and loving and never corrects mistakes. Hawke is a certified therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International and is very accommodating with children of all ages. Hawke lives in Plaistow with her brother and sister labs. Register to read to her and visit between 4 and 5pm.
