Kimball Library News 6/24/13

It’s not too late to register for summer reading.  Please sign up for the program as a whole and then for each individual event your child or t/ween wants to attend.  Raffle tickets for the t/weens may be submitted now.  Recording minutes for prizes for the Dig into Reading program may be submitted weekly starting July 1st. If you don’t play, you can’t win.  Play!

The saga of presenting an activity or two each week for your attention continues.  Before we talk about what’s on the horizon, once again let’s recap a few you don’t want to miss.  Please register and come down on Monday, July 8, @ 6:30pm as ‘We DIG Big Potatoes’ with kids (grades K-5) and also register for Wednesday, July 11, @ 6:30pm (grades 5-12) for the ‘Liar & Spy’ t/ween book event.

We ‘DIG’ toad abodes!  Dig into designing your own container garden for the mythical creature of your choice. Pixies, toads, or fairies will be welcome after you’ve created a home for them using natural and store bought materials. (Think dish garden but much more creative.)  Each of the class times on Thursday, July 11th are offering the same exact module.  Please select only one class at either 4:30 or 6:30pm.  Register children in kindergarten to grade 5 in person, online, or over the phone.

We are ‘MAD’ about dinosaurs and we ‘DIG’ dinosaurs, too!  Mad Science is back in town and they are offering a special class for kids entering grades 1-4.  This hands-on science workshop allows children ages 6-9 to see how scientists learn about dinosaurs. Your readers will dig for fossils, identify our extinct friends, and even get a cast of a dinosaur tooth to take home! Register to attend on Monday, July 15, from 6:30-7:30pm.  This class is limited to 25 children maximum and is geared for the suggested ages. Please only sign up children who can definitely come and fit in the grade/age perimeters. Residents only, please, for this module.

We are going ‘BENEATH THE SURFACE’ with Todd Brodeur, two-time World Frisbee Champion!  Join us for not only an amazing show of what Todd can do, but after the show he’ll have Frisbees for all attendees to practice some of his tricks.  This exciting event is on Wednesday, July 17th, at 6:30pm at Atkinson Academy.

Two-time Freestyle Frisbee Champion, Todd Brodeur, educates, entertains and motivates his audience with captivating Frisbee shows and interactive playshops. He promotes staying active throughout your life by playing disc sports. He focuses on healthy lifestyles, creativity, flexibility and balance, all aimed at improving self-esteem and confidence. World Class Frisbee Shows and Playshops teaches the next generation new ways to learn Frisbee skills that increase hand-eye coordination and all will have fun and success while exercising.

Frisbee flipping has been part of American pop culture for over 50 years. Across the globe, the popularity of Frisbee sports has never been greater. Now you and your group can watch a master of the craft and also learn and improve your freestyle skills. This simple space age object will bring fun and excitement to any group or class. Students will be inspired to play more Frisbee, be active, be self-aware and continue to discover.

This event is for ages 10 and up–or those ‘entering’ grade 4 and up. We encourage the adults of the youth to stay for the show and participate in the playshop. Please register all youth and adults who will be in attendance. This is a family event for the older ‘kids’.
