As summer reading begins to wind down, it’s noteworthy to
mention that raffle prizes for t/weens are still being distributed. Get
all your tickets in the jar ASAP for prize redemption. The final day to
submit tickets for the jaris August 2nd. Remember the reading challenge? If at least 100 teens registered and got 1000 tickets in the jar by August 2nd, the Youth Services Director (Kathy Watson) is going to have crazy hair from August 8-31st. Get reading and submitting tickets—you still have time to win!
For children in grades K-5, most should be finished collecting prizes by August 12th.
If you are away on vacation you may redeem for prizes when you return.
All summer reading prizes, dig into reading shovels, etc will be put
away by August 19th. Please redeem your minutes and collect your loot.
Wednesday, August 14, at
6:30pm is the final combination t/ween reading discussion for this
summer. In the fall we’ll be back to our usual routine of tweens
(grades 5-8) meeting the first Wednesday of the month and the teens
(grades 9-12) meeting the second Wednesday of the month from
6:30-7:30pm. In August we (grades 5-12) are discussing ‘The One and
Only Ivan’ and, as usual, eating candy. Nom nom! Ivan (a gorilla) is
an unforgettable first-person narration story of friendship, art, and
hope. Newcomers are encouraged! We have books available at the main
desk. Bring a friend and make a friend.
All
summer reading participants get a chance to celebrate their successes
by participating in the finale that is being hosted on Thursday, August
8,starting at 6:30pm. Music will be performed by The Squeezebox
Stompers in the courtyard, and when you’re not smiling or dancing you
can be eating an ice cream sundae from our famous buffet. You’ll be
able to choose from our many toppings. Pack up the family and come on
down! We’d appreciate registrations from SRP participants so we’ll know
how much ice cream and candy to buy. Thank you for your cooperation.
Make a date for Uno’s on August 22nd! We’re telling you about it now so you can mark in the phone or date book and start to invite guests. Go to Uno's (Haverhill/Plaistow line) anytime on August 22ndfrom
11:30am to closing and the Friends of the Kimball Library will get up
to20% of your total bill. This is also good on take-out orders.
All you have to do is pick up a coupon at the Kimball Library or print
one off our website and give it to the hostess when placing your order.
This is a GREAT way to support all those events you love to attend at
the library. Please take care to have your coupon with you and you
mention it to your server—they cannot give credit without the slip of
paper. Bring your friends out to lunch or dinne rwith you and get even
more bang for the library buck! :)
