PIRATE DAY: Ahoy
thar, matey! Come be a pirate today. Wear your eye patch, and dress up in your
favorite pirate costume! We'll taste some pirate food, hear a pirate story and
have fun with special activities! Arrgh, it's a pirate day for me and you! Make sure ages 3-grade 1 register for this
swashbuckling event on Tuesday, February 24, from 10:30-11:30am or we’ll make
you walk the plank!
SNAP CIRCUITS LAB: Snap Circuits gives your child a hands-on education
in how electrical circuits work to run the everyday devices that they're
familiar with. They'll also gain valuable lessons in building and in following
instructions. With these projects, children will experiment with things like
electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the
transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds.
The lab will give opportunity to
explore and build in step by step fashion with the help of the facilitator. We
have ten kits so we are allowing only ten registrations in the range of grades
3-6. Register in advance and come in on Tuesday, February 24th, from 6:30-7:30pm.
STORY BOOK EVE: Who
is your favorite book character? Do you have more than one? Come dress up as your favorite character and
join us for lots of fun! We will read popular stories, play a trivia game about
children's literature and even make our very own book. Registration is required
for this activity for grades 1-3 on Wednesday, February 25th from
6:30-7:30pm.
ZENTANGLE: Zentangle
is an abstract, patterned drawing created according to the tenets of the
Zentangle method. Using the standard format of a 3.5-inch square tile, the
artist creates a structured pattern according to his or her whim following a
basic set of guidelines. No technology, special materials, or educational
background are necessary to become a Zentangle artist. IF you have a fine line
Sharpie or Zentangle pen, bring it.
Otherwise, come as you are! This
is an exploring workshop for beginners in grades 4-12. Registration is required.
BEGINNING
YOGA: This class will be offered as a series such that each class
builds on the previous one, so please plan to attend the full series on
Wednesdays, 10:15-11:15 from March 4-April 8. Though designed for the beginner,
those with limited or rusty experience will also find much to draw on.
The classes
will introduce basic yoga poses and practices, with focus on good technique and
mindfulness. Physical activity will involve moving from seated on the
floor, to kneeling, to standing and balances poses, and gentle inversions like
Down Dog, gentle backbends like Cobra, and gentle inversions like Bridge.
Come learn
the basic asanas (poses), the language of yoga, and principles like mindfulness
and breath work which help develop strength and flexibility, calmness and
focus.
The teacher,
Atkinson resident Lisa Wisler, is taking a 200 hour teacher training. The
class series completes one requirement of that course, and she is happy to be
able to offer it here at the Kimball Library.
Plan to wear comfortable clothing for exercise, and bring a yoga mat. Registration is required.
