Kimball Library News 2/25/19

Has your schedule changed and now you have time to bring the littles to preschool story times and activities?  We have a few openings in the following sessions: Mother Goose on the Loose (Mondays at 10:30 for babies to age 2+), Bitty Books (Tuesdays at 10:15 for ages 2-3), Sensory Story Time (Thursdays at 10:15 for ages 2-3), and Kiddie Lit (Tuesdays at 11:30, and Fridays at 10:15 & 11:30 for ages 3-6). Register once and your child is on the schedule until the last session in June.

T/WEEN DINNER THEATRE/BOOK CLUB: The book of the month is ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas. This is a special book discussion event for the month of March occurring on the 12th at 6:00pm and all interested t/weens are invited to attend. ‘Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressure from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what's right.’

Join us to watch the film adaptation of the book while eating pizza, and then we’ll have a book discussion comparing the book to the movie.  Copies of the book may be checked out from the front desk by anyone with a Kimball, Plaistow, or Sandown Library card in good standing. This special event is part of the combined ‘2109 Community Reads’ project.

This activity is for teens and tweens age 10 and up in lieu of our ‘regular’ book discussion night.  Registration is absolutely required to have the right amount of pizza!  Please bring your own beverages in closable containers.

The movie has a run time of 2 hours and 13 minutes and is rated PG 13.  We start PROMPTLY at 6 to be out by 8:30 PM.

READERS THEATER: If you have children in grades 2-5, and they haven’t tried Readers’ Theater yet, they are missing out on a chance to build confidence in reading and ‘public’ speaking.  No need to worry about remembering lines, just play the part as you read! Everyone can have a turn, share the fun and perform without costumes or props. The atmosphere is low-key and fun-filled.  Register them for March 14th at 6:30 PM.

HEALTHY COOKBOOK CLUB: Do you enjoy cooking and trying new recipes? If so, why not join our Healthy Cookbook Club that generally meets the 3rd Monday of each month. The club chooses a different healthy cookbook to dive into for the month. Members check out a copy of the cookbook and spend time trying out the various recipes at home. When the group gathers the next month, we discuss the various recipes and share opinions of the meals tried. In addition, participants prepare and bring a sample of a recipe from the cookbook to share with the group.

Register so we know how many cookbooks to have on hand for the next meeting on Monday, March 18th, at 6:30 PM. This month’s cookbook will be: Danielle Walker’s AGAINST all GRAIN.

FRIENDS MEETING: Join this lively group and support your local library. The Friends are responsible for fundraising all the amazing extras they provide to the Kimball Library. They meet once a month to brainstorm new ideas and work on existing fundraisers.  The next meeting is March 20th at 10:15 AM.  Please check it out!  We are always looking for new faces.
