Kimball Library News 3/25/19


The Kimball Library is pleased to announce that it now accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.  U.S. Citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports here at 5 Academy Avenue by appointment.  

For application forms, information on documentation required, fees, and a wealth of other passport and international travel information, visit the only official website for passport information – travel.state.gov. 

HEALTHY LIVING FOR YOUR BRAIN AND BODY WITH CARRIE AMORIM GOOD: For centuries, we've known that the health of the brain and the body are connected. But now, science is able to provide insights into how to make lifestyle choices that may help you keep your brain and body healthy as you age. Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging.  

Registration is required for this event on Thursday, April 11th, at 6:30 PM. This is sponsored by Kimball Library, Rockingham County ServiceLink and the Alzheimer's Association.

About the presenter:  Carrie Amorim Good, MSW has worked in the areas of developmental disabilities, elder activities and engagement, and long-term care. She has worked for the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter, since 2017 and is currently the Program Coordinator for the state of New Hampshire. Her role includes providing the Alzheimer’s Association with core educational programs for people with memory impairment and their care partners and the public in NH. She also seeks to raise community awareness about Alzheimer’s and other dementias through community outreach efforts at health fairs and presentations to a variety of organizations and groups.

APRIL VACATION WEEK PREVIEW: The library will be hosting a myriad of events from April 22-26 if you’re enjoying a a ‘stay-cation’ and you and the kids will be in the area some or part of the time.  Here is a ‘sneak preview’ of what is to come.  ‘Create a Cartoon Strip’ (grades K-5), ‘Make a Collage’ (ages 2-6), ‘Cupcake Wars’ (t/weens grades 4 & up), ‘STEM Toys’ (all ages), ‘Beginner’s Puppetry’ (ages 10 & up), and Daniel Tiger Time (all ages).  If you can’t wait to read about it here in future articles, pop onto our website and view the April calendar.  Registration is already available and you can start planning now!

CREATE YOUR OWN GREETING CARDS: Join us in creating some lovely greeting cards. Using stamping and scrapbook techniques come learn how to create 8 beautiful cards to take home.
Kimball Library's own gifted scrapbooker, Cathie Piccolo will be instructing the class along with Lois Powers and will be providing materials, embellishments and support to make your own cards. Walk away with some unique cards to use the spring season on Friday, April 12th at 1:00 PM.

Registration is required and seating is limited. A non-refundable materials fee of $12.00 must be paid at time of registration. Stop in at the library and register today! Call for more information. If the class is full and additional class may be added. Wait listed individuals will be informed.

*If you are experienced at scrapbooking and wish to bring your own supplies (such as: adhesives and craft scissors) to work with please feel free.

PHOTOGRAPHY ON DISPLAY: Come check out the meeting room for that is wonderfully adorned with some originally-titled ‘ODD SHOTS’ photography.  Amateur photography, Ron Thimot from Atkinson, is exhibiting some of the photos that he has taken over a period of decades.  They don’t fit into some neat category or genre such as flowers, landscapes or portraits.  Instead, you’ll find an array of odd shot wonders to behold such as ‘Muddy Reflection’, ‘Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau’, ‘Haight Ashbury, or ‘Church and Barb Wire’. This selection is on display until May 1st.  Be sure to scope it out.
