Kimball Library News 12/30/19

On November 25, the League of Women Voters delivered water samples from almost 70 homes in the area.  Individual results were sent to the homeowners.

On Jan 29, DES will come back to the Kimball Library at 6:30 PM and provide the summary of all our test data as well as answer questions!  Come see how your results compare to all the other samples or if you didn't get your water tested, come find out what's happening with your neighbors' water. (Speakers - Paul Susca and Cynthia Klevens from NH DES)

This program is sponsored by the League of Women Voters - Southern Rockingham County.

NH BOATING SAFETY CLASS: Register for this course (two part class on February 4 and 6, 2020 through the NH Marine Patrol at https://register-ed.com/programs/newhampshire/174  Registration must be completed through that portal only, not through the library.  The library also does not receive the payment for the classes.  Beware that typically these courses fill up early and you’ll not want to delay your registration.

The New Hampshire Classroom Course covers a variety of topics including boat navigation, boating safety equipment, invasive aquatic species and laws and rules. This instructor-led class incorporates a range of learning methods consisting of lecture, videos, and student discussion.

Certification Cards: Upon successful completion of the course, students will leave with a boating certificate which is valid for 45 days. The permanent certificate card will be automatically mailed to the student's address entered at the time of registration.

Who Needs Boating Education? Everyone 16 years of age and older who operates a motorboat over 25 horsepower on New Hampshire waters must have a valid boating education certificate.
Age Requirements: Students may register and take the course at 15 years old, although a boating education certificate will not be issued until their 16th birthday.

Special Accommodations: Individuals with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations by contacting the New Hampshire Marine Patrol at (603) 293-2037 option #1. Please allow a minimum of 30 days advance notice for the department to arrange a course and requested accommodations. Individuals can also connect with the New Hampshire Relay Service or TDD at 1 (800) 735-2964.

TEEN VOLUNTEERS: We often get queries about teen volunteers.  Typically (exception being our Library Buddies program where we take ages 11+) volunteers need to be at least 13 and reach out to kwatson@kimballlibrary.com.  We always need volunteers at the Jack Frost Jamboree (Saturday, January 25th) and also use teenagers at events where we have a lot of small hands involved. If teens want to help at any of those events they should jump on our website and sign up for the event.  If it asks grade or age then type volunteer in that field.  That way we'll know to expect you.  If teens want/need additional community services hours it is best if they reach out in person with plenty of notice of what kind of hours they are looking for.

We always offer attending a tween or teen book discussion and writing your own questions.  We have copies of each book here. For that 3 service hours each time you attend and 'co-lead' are available. Each group meets once a month. Teens, please register in advance.

NEW & IMPROVED WEBSITE: You may have noticed that we are now sporting an updated website.  You may also have noticed that if you have us bookmarked or saved on one of your devices that it’s not going to the ‘opening page’.  Please delete your bookmark and start fresh with https://kimballlibrary.com and then bookmark us or save us to your homepage again.  You won’t want to miss out!

HOLIDAY HOURS: We will be CLOSED on January 20, 2020 observing Civil Rights Day. Overdrive Downloadable Books, the Libby App, Kanopy, and Hoopla are open 24/7 with a library card in good standing.
