Kimball Library News 9/14/2020

Fall in love with your library (again). Even though most events are virtual and masks are required, much of the library jazz that you love the most still exists. You may stop by to browse, use the computers, or see a friendly face. We have a myriad of virtual programming for the fall as well as a few small in-person gatherings planned. Check out the website for all the details or drop by and get your information mask to mask!

ZOOM DANCE PARTY: Bring your dancing shoes and wear your favorite outfit, then meet us on Zoom for a fun dance party! Miss Daniele will lead the dancing for a few movement exercises and fun stretches, and the rest of the party will be fun music and the space to dance your heart out with your friends online. So spread the word and join the fun!  This fun-tastic event will take place on Monday, September 28th at 2:30 PM. When you register you will receive a Zoom link so you can join the party! All ages are welcome but this dancing gig is geared for ages 2 to 6.

VOTE!: It is time to elect the next President of the Library. Our current president, Splat the Cat, is up for re-election. If you know of a fictional character who could be an even better President of the Library, stop by the Children’s Room to write down their name. Submit your nominees anytime up until the 19th in person or by commenting on our Facebook page. Voting will kick off on the following Monday. (For anyone 18 or older, call Atkinson Town Clerk to make sure you’re registered and ready to vote for real.)

GIRLS WHO CODE: Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization that teaches girls computer science and programming concepts. Kimball Girls Who Code Club is being run by certified Girls Who Code instructors Pam Livingston, Ellie Linehan, and Kathy Watson. Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.

Last year's Kimball Library ‘Girls Who Code’ created an app on Thunkable.  The opportunities are endless for learning and bonding. This is a weekly commitment barring vacation weeks and holidays until May.

We will plan to meet in the meeting room (to the right of the main entrance). To maintain safe social distancing, capacity will be capped at 8 participants. Masks are required.

UNICORN STORYTIME:  Unicorn Storytime is here to stay! Each Friday on Facebook LIVE! at 10:30 you can follow the antics of the Unicorn Librarian to bring you fresh stories. She can’t hear or see you, but she loves reading comments and saying hello! If you’re watching and want a shout out, type your name in the comments, or send us a picture of how YOU do storytime at home! Send it in to dguest@kimballlibrary.com to be featured on our page and in the next storytime. Not a good time for you and the kids?  Just hop onto our Facebook page and scroll to watch the episodes that you missed.
