Kimball Library News 8/20/23

We have some popular afterschool classes starting back up in September. Register ASAP as these do tend to fill up to capacity. You then will be on a waiting list with priority for future sessions.

That’s right, the Children’s Room isn’t just for preschoolers! We have several programs for older kids, including some just after school. Sign up for these super fun classes now to reserve your spot.

Both Kindergarten Club and Elementary Explorers may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to come to the class. Children are eligible to take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the Library if parents make arrangements with pick-up patrol. (The Library is not taking responsibility for the transportation, we are only letting you know that there is a bus that stops here.) Please pack them a snack that they can have before 3:30. Parents MUST let the Library know of any changes to the drop off/pick up routine OR if their child is not attending the class. Safety first!

KINDERGARTEN CLUB: This fun group (Ages 5-6) is on Mondays starting September 11th at 3:30 PM.

Children ages 5-6 are invited to join us for this highly engaging program. With stories, games, crafts, and maybe and experiment or two, you’re bound to have a great time!

ELEMENTARY EXPLORERS: This STEM class (Grades 1-3) meets on Thursdays starting September 7th at 3:30 PM.

Elementary Explorers is back on a new day! If you love science, then this is the class for you. Each week, we will have a building challenge or an experiment, so get ready for some (occasionally messy) fun!

SUMMER CONCERT with the TIMBERLANE COMMUNITY JAZZ BAND: The Timberlane Community Jazz Band (TCMA Jazz Band) was formed in the mid-2000's.  Directed by John Mainella, they play a repertoire of big band tunes from yesterday and today with a modern, jazzy, swinging edge.

Don't forget to invite your friends and family to join you for a wonderful evening of music on Thursday, August 31st at 6:00 PM. We are forever grateful to the George Family Charities for their generous sponsorship and to The Friends of the Kimball Library for hosting.

*We suggest that in the event of inclement weather, you check the Kimball Library website for updates.

ARTIST OF AUGUST: For the month of August, the Library is hosting an exciting exhibit of Judy Durkin’s oil and acrylic paintings. Please stop by the meeting room to enjoy her work.

“Art is for the soul, and it is very personal. I paint what I love, and I am happiest when I see an expression of awe, joy, surprise and even sometimes sadness on the face of someone viewing my paintings. Art is not what the viewer looks at but what they see. I hope my paintings evoke an emotion in you, the viewer. May they all bring you inspiration, charm and joy.”

HOLIDAY CLOSING: The Library will be closed from September 2nd through the 4th in observation of Labor Day. Streaming services such as Libby, Hoopla and Kanopy are available 24/7 as well as news sources on our website such as the Wall St. Journal and NewsBank with a library card in good standing. Best wishes for a safe and pleasant holiday weekend!
