Vacation getaways or
business trips are the perfect time to take out one of our 3 regular Kindles,
large screen Kindle, Kindle touch, or our Nook.
Each kindle has over 50 bestselling titles/authors on it, and our Nook
has teen-friendly titles that have been nominated for either the Flume or
Isinglass award (books nominated by tweens and teens). Get your name on the waiting list if all our
gadgets are checked out. You’ll love
having an easily portable library with you.
We also have a fun device
for in-house check-out in the children’s room.
We have loaded up two iPads with
40 book and early literacy apps, and you will be able to check them out to a
designated area by the Children’s Information Desk and use them for one
hour. Most of the apps are appropriate for preschool age children as well
as there are some that you can use with toddlers. There are some apps
that are geared for elementary age as well. This is a tool for you to use
with your child, and we have an agreement for you to sign before doing
so. Come in and have a look.
Just
a reminder that folklorist Jo Radner will be presenting ‘Braving the Middle
Ground: Stories of Pre-Revolutionary Northern New England’ at the
library on Saturday, May 11th, at 11:30am. In this performance storyteller/historian ,Jo
Radner, juxtaposes Native American oral traditions and stories told by her own
New England ancestors to reveal a complex colonial ‘middle ground’ in which
English settlers and Native peoples saw one another as defenders and
trespassers, pursuers and refugees, relatives and aliens, kind neighbors and
ruthless destroyers. Mark the date!
Please
keep weeding those unwanted books, DVDs, and music CDs. We can put them into our collection, the
upcoming sale on May 18th, or donate them to another organization
for you. Call us anytime we’re open and
we’ll meet you in the back for large deliveries.
We
will be closed Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May
27.) Two day loan items checked out on Thursday the 23rd will not be due
back until May 28th. Take advantage of the extension and have a safe
and happy holiday weekend.
