Kimball Library News 5/27/13

It's officially that special time of year to announce that summer really is coming because summer reading registration is just around the corner!  Starting on June 17th both the youth program (children entering grades K-5) can register as well as the t/ween program (youth entering grades 6-college).  We also have a little literacy program for kids in the toddler to preschool age as well.  Come by and see us starting June 17th and we'll get you set up.  It will take you less than 5 minutes to register any age.  We've got activities and events for all ages.

Specifically for t/weens this year's theme is entitled 'Beneath the Surface' (BTS).  BTS is open to ATK youth entering grade 6 to age 19 (as of Fall 2013). Register by coming into the Kimball Library to receive your reading raffle tickets and get your $5 reading bucks coupon. Use it to pay down your library fines or receive future fine credit.

For each age-appropriate item you read, turn in your ticket to a staff member with your name, phone number, and title of the item you read. There is no required amount of reading and you can include graphic novels, magazines, novels, audio books, ebooks – any literature counts. You may ask for extra tickets if you run out. The last day to enter tickets for the raffle is August 2nd.

If you read an item that is MORE than 200 pages, you may enter 2 coupons for that same book.
Remember~ over 200 pages = DOUBLE COUPONS.  Participation raffle tickets are for teens that have registered for and attend teen programs. NEW—any Isinglass or Flume title is worth 3 tickets, and participation tickets are worth double this year.  All ‘T/ween’ events on the calendar are eligible for earning tickets.  The more you read and participate, the better your odds of winning prizes.

When each ticket is completed, drop it off at the main desk to be eligible for random prize drawings held weekly. Prizes may include snacks, books, gift cards, Water Country & Canobie passes  and more! You need not be present to win. This year’s challenge is if at least 100 teens register and submit 1000 tickets as a whole, the Youth Services Director (Kathy Watson) will get owned by teens at the
August 8 ‘Finale’ program.  Her entire head will be CRAZY colored hair for the rest of the month of August starting on August 8!  Get motivated and encourage all your friends to register and read for Beneath the Surface.

***Most summer reading events have a required registration, and registration closes 24 –48 hours in advance of the event start.  Register early to avoid disappointment.

Stay tuned next week for the children's theme.  We think you'll 'Dig It'!
