Kimball Library News 12/23/13

We are continuing our story line from last week on "What about" museums that you can get discount prices on just from having a Kimball Library card in good standing.  Museums are a great way to get in a little culture and fun.

What about the Currier Museum of Art?  The Currier Museum of Art is an internationally renowned art museum located in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Currier features European and American paintings, decorative arts, photographs and sculpture, including works by Picasso, Monet, O'Keeffe, Wyeth, and LeWitt with exhibitions, tours, and programs year-round. The museum also offers tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Zimmerman House -- reservations required. The Currier Museum Art Center offers studio workshops and classes for children and adults.

What about the Museum of Fine Arts?  Today the MFA is one of the most comprehensive art museums in the world; the collection encompasses nearly 450,000 works of art. They welcome more than one million visitors each year to experience art from ancient Egyptian to contemporary, special exhibitions, and innovative educational programs.

The Museum has undergone significant expansion and change in recent years; 2010 marked the opening of the Art of the Americas Wing, with four levels of American art from ancient to modern. In 2011, the west wing of the Museum was transformed into the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, with new galleries for contemporary art and social and learning spaces. Improved and new galleries for European, Asian, and African art have opened through 2013, with more to come.
