We
are leaping into the new year with ‘A Leap To Freedom: Boston Harbor 1989’ right here on Tuesday,
January 14th, from 7-8pm.
Atkinson resident, Edward Polonka, will share his journey from Communist
Poland to citizenship in the US. Author, Lynda Healey from Haverhill, MA
has published a book on this incredible journey. The author, Lynda M. Healey, will also be
available to answer questions and sign copies of the book. Books will be available for sale that
evening. Copies are also available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
We
are leaping into the new year with a t/ween book discussion (Grades 5 - 12) on
Wednesday, January 8th, from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes. The meeting is a joint venture this month
because the first Wednesday of January falls on the holiday.
‘At
the age of fifteen, Dieter's blind devotion gets him promoted from Hitler Youth
into the German army. Dieter's determined to prove his allegiance and bravery
all costs.
Spence,
just sixteen, drops out of his Utah high school to begin training as a
paratrooper. He's seen how boys who weren't much in high school can come home
heroes, and Spence wants to prove to his friends and family that he really can
be something.
Their
worst fear was that the war would end too soon -- that they wouldn't get the
chance to prove themselves. But when they finally see the action they were
hoping for, it's like nothing they could have ever imagined.
Refreshments
and thought-provoking conversation will be served. All interested mature 5th
graders, middle school & high school students are welcome. (Not young
adults, not children -- hence, TWEENagers in grades 5-12.) Please ask for a
copy of the current book at the front desk.
We are leaping into the new year with more tech
tutorials! You can have a brief lesson here on your tech toy
(Kindle, iPad, iPod, Nook or other device compatible with Overdrive) to learn
how to put an e-book on it. This is a basic tutorial for newbies and they
are for 30 minutes for one person (or two if you are couple). Got
questions? Ask for Kathy Watson at (603) 362-5234. (Kimball Library
resident card holders in good standing only, please.)
The library has some unique holiday hours coming
up. We will be open only from 10am-2pm
