Kimball Library News 1/7/19


Join us as Roy Haddock discusses how he overcame lifelong struggles with being overweight. For the presentation, A Better Way to Lose Weight, Ray will be accompanied by his wife Debbie, who is a Registered Dietician and a great source of information and knowledge on the subject. 
Highlights of the talk will include:  Dieting, experiences with the Atkins Diet and others. The cycles of losing and gaining as well as the difficulties of dieting and lack of satisfaction. Searching for a better, easier way to lose weight and keep it off. Deciding to combine two diets/ weight loss methods and the best of both. What foods to enjoy and which to avoid and a typical menu. Planning tips, and some favorite recipes. Reading food labels. What’s important to you and what’s not. Possible implications concerning blood pressure and diabetes.

There will be time for Q&A following the discussion. Registration is required for this event that is coming up soon on January 29th at 6:30 PM.

About the presenters: Deb Sullivan grew up in western CT and came to Boston to attend Simmons College. She has been a dietitian for 30 plus years working in long-term care for the past 25 years. Deb has two sons who have blessed her with two grandsons.

Roy Haddock originally came from Medford with a long stay in Melrose. He occasionally works as a tradesman for his company. Roy has two daughters and shares the grandsons with Deb.

NH BOATING SAFETY COURSE: Register for this course through the NH Marine Patrol at https://register-ed.com/programs/newhampshire/174.   The first in several chances, this one is meeting Feb 5th and 7th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  You must attend both sections.  


The New Hampshire Classroom Course covers a variety of topics including boat navigation, boating safety equipment, invasive aquatic species and laws and rules. This instructor-led class incorporates a range of learning methods consisting of lecture, videos, and student discussion.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will leave with a boating certificate which is valid for 45 days. The permanent certificate card will be automatically mailed to the student's address entered at the time of registration.

Everyone 16 years of age and older who operates a motorboat over 25 horsepower on New Hampshire waters must have a valid boating education certificate. Students may register and take the course at 15 years old, although a boating education certificate will not be issued until their 16th birthday.
Individuals with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations by contacting the New Hampshire Marine Patrol at (603) 293-2037 option #1. Please allow a minimum of 30 days advance notice for the department to arrange a course and requested accommodations. Individuals can also connect with the New Hampshire Relay Service or TDD at 1 (800) 735-2964.
