Kimball Library News 6/26/22

The challenge to turn Kathy Watson’s hair ocean blue by the amount of summer reading registrations is ON. Only 3 weeks into it and the kids have delivered a total of 130 which puts them only 70 away from making it happen. Stay tuned, or better yet, come by the Library and see the thermometer in the lobby to check the progress.

TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN: In keeping with the summer reading theme (Oceans of Possibilities) the book of the month for t/weens is 'Turtles All the Way Down' by John Green.

It all begins with a fugitive billionaire and the promise of a cash reward. Turtles All the Way Down is about lifelong friendship, the intimacy of an unexpected reunion, Star Wars fan fiction, and tuatara. But at its heart is Aza Holmes, a young woman navigating daily existence within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

Join the most chill t/weens and chat with us about this book! Copies are available for the asking. We serve candy and the coolest conversation. Register yourself and your bestie. What kind of candy would fit the theme on Wednesday, July 6 at 6 PM? SWEDISH FISH and TURTLES are on the menu!

BITTY BEACH CAMP: Children ages 3-6 with their caregivers are invited to join us for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs and simple crafts on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM. Once registered you are enrolled for the entire summer camp session. This, and the Seaside Sensory Camp, are Oceans of Possibilities summer reading events.

SEASIDE SENSORY CAMP: Join us for an exceptional exploratory class: Seaside Sensory Story Time!

Some story times are too long! Some classes are too easy. Sensory Story Time is just right for your two or three-year-old who is almost ready for full story time but may still be challenged by so much structure.

Join us for one story, followed by an opportunity to work with sensory and art activities that reinforce what was heard in the story. Please register once for the summer session.

SUMMER CONCERT WITH THE JORDAN TW TRIO: Join us for an evening of outstanding music and entertainment on Thursday, July 14, at 6:00 PM.  In the event of inclement weather, this concert will be moved from the Courtyard to inside the Library.

About The Musicians:  Putting a fresh spin on traditional Celtic music, the Jordan TW Trio delivers a dynamic show full of lively fiddle tunes, haunting airs, and classic sing-alongs. Fiddler/singer Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki is joined by fellow New Hampshire natives Matt Jensen on guitar and Chris Noyes on upright bass. Their shows blend the music of Ireland and Scotland with their own original material, drawing on multiple genres to produce a unique sound that has been described as “larger-than-life” and “brisk, lean, and exceedingly lovely.” In 2013 Jordan was awarded the title of “Master Artist” by the NH State Council On The Arts, and later named “Best Fiddler 2016” by NH Magazine. He composed the New England Emmy®-nominated theme music for WMUR’s New Hampshire Chronicle, and the Trio formed the core band that recorded it. They have appeared live on NHPR’s “The Folk Show,” provided music for projects ranging from Ted Talks to children’s programs, and their albums can be heard on radio stations around the British Isles as well as here in New England. Two-time winners of “Best Of Weddings” from The Knot, they also perform regularly at listening rooms, concert halls, and festivals.

The 2022 Summer Concert Series is generously sponsored by George Family Charities.
