Kimball Library News 7/10/22

Sometimes summer life is hectic and we can’t be committed to a certain event on a certain date and time. For youth summer reading activities, we have sprinkled in some open-ended events so you can decide at the last minute. Coming up on the calendar you should check out the following—Book Character Scavenger Hunt, Color My Ocean, Oceans of Engineering, Pokémon Scavenger Hunt, and SEAk and Find. All these events are ‘come when you can, and leave when you must’ at various dates and times.

5 X 5 X 5 KINDERGARTEN CLUB READINESS: For 5-year old children heading to kindergarten (and their caregivers), for 5 weeks, at 5 o’clock!

Starting school can sometimes be scary. Come practice your ‘school skills’ and make some friends! We’ll read stories, learn about schedules, play some games, make a craft, and most importantly- have lots of fun!

This class is designed to help preschoolers feel comfortable in taking the next step in their learning careers. We’ll be practicing our listening skills, raising our hands, and making new friends. Register your ‘fives’ to start the fun part of school early. Miss Katie will be hosting on Mondays at 5 PM starting on July 25.

SEA GLASS ART: Have you ever collected sea glass on the beach? Did you know you can use it to make some really cool art pieces? Find out how in this fun beach themed class! This class is geared for t/weens entering grades five and up. Invite your bestie and a few others to be cool and creative. Register for July 27th at 6 PM and make friends with Katie, Youth Services Librarian.

This is an Oceans of Possibilities summer reading event sponsored by The Friends of Kimball Library.

KNOCK ON WOOD COURTYARD CONCERT: Knock on Wood is a high-energy acoustic folk-rock duo, featuring singer-songwriter Howie Newman on guitar, lead vocals and harmonica. Howie is joined by Joe Kessler on fiddle and mandolin. Joe is considered one of the top fiddlers in the area and has an energetic improvisational style that includes folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass. He is also an outstanding backup vocalist.

The duo performs Classic Rock covers and funny original songs (suitable for all ages). It’s a very lively show with great musicianship, nice vocal harmonies and a little humor here and there. Howie Newman has opened for Tom Paxton, Vance Gilbert, Brewer & Shipley, Pure Prairie League, Bill Staines, Lui Collins, Don White, Modern Man and many others.

If you would like to receive a reminder or updates about this event, you may register for this concert taking place on July 28th at 6:00 PM. Otherwise, just drop by! Don’t forget to invite your friends and family to join you to enjoy a fine evening of music.

The 2022 Summer Concert Series is generously sponsored by George Family Charities.
