Kimball Library News 12/21/10

It’s time to turn over a new leaf! Have you been thinking about trying out a book group? It’s time for those New Year’s resolutions to be mulled over, and we propose you add the myriad of events at the library to your list… monthly book discussions (grades 2 through adult), teen Thursdays, story hours for children, playgroups, baby lapsits for those under 2, Saturday cinema, etc. Please jump on the website for details or give us a call at (603) 362-5234 for suggestions on how to become more involved.

Start January off right with ‘Fun and Learn with Playdough’ for children ages 4 and up and parents too! You've never dreamed how many things can be done with playdough and how enjoyable it is. Working with playdough is a very important enduring tactile experience for children. When educating 'the whole child,' playdough activities will help promote the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and creative development of your child.
Miss Laura and Miss Gloria from Hazel Drive Early Childhood Center in Hampstead will guide children in their learning as they play. This program on Wednesday, January 5, from 12:30-1:15pm includes guitar music and singing, a visit from some playdough amigos and some Spanish vocabulary. Each child will leave with a bag of homemade play dough, the recipe, and the spark of many ideas for continued learning. Please join us as we explore the many benefits of this soft, soothing, flexible, engaging, creative substance.

Also new for January is Kimball’s first ‘Jack Frost Jamboree’! This exciting event will take place on Saturday, January 22nd, from 10:30am-2:30pm. Imagine the library being transformed into a mini golf course! Other events will include a snowball walk, snow shoe demonstrations (for adults & children), winter crafts, an option to participate in hat and mitten donations for Ruth’s House in Haverhill, MA, and refreshments including hot dogs and popcorn. This is just a tease of what’s to come, but save the date for yourself and your family.

Please note that the library will have limited hours on December 31 (10am-3pm), and we will be closed on January 1, 2011. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
