Kimball Library News 10/4/11

Feeling lucky? In the children’s room it’s not hard to be a winner. Save this date (Thursday, October 13, from 4:00-5:00pm) to play Bingo for books! Children ages 5-10 years are invited to join in the fun. Kids under the age of 7 should have adult help while playing. It's fun to win books! We give away our gently used donations as well as some brand spanky news ones.

Feeling green? Even in the autumn it is good to ‘go green’. We have environmentally friendly activities for kids to be made out of recycled materials on Monday, October 17th, from 4:00-5:00pm. A flashy fish made from CDs is perfect for hanging by a window to catch the sun! It's free and it's fun! Please register for this program.
Are you even a little bit country or a little bit Irish? Find out on Tuesday, October 25, 6:30-8pm and meet “Two Old Friends-- (Irish and American Country Music). Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins are once again delighting audiences young and old with a combination of Irish music and American country music.

With banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodran, octave mandolin and heartwarming vocal harmonies, ‘Two Old Friends’ tell a story in music of how immigrants came to this country from Ireland, Scotland and Great Britain, bringing their melodies and instruments; they show how the old time country ballads of the Appalachians are rooted in these tunes.

A ‘Two Old Friends’ performance will give you plaintive ballads and foot stomping shout tunes; soaring mandolin solos, gospel sing-a-longs, traditional Irish tunes and storytelling. There is truly something for everyone. Come Join the Lads for one of their concerts on October 25th and enjoy an evening with ‘Two Old Friends’!

Come if you dare on Friday, October 28, from 6:00-7:30pm for a little ‘Halloween Spooktacular’ for kids. Wear your costume and join us for All Hallow’s Eve with spooky stories, fun music, witches, ghastly goodies and a monstrous parade. If you dare you can enter Mr. Kreep’s room for the biggest surprise of all. Registration is required and will remain open until filled or October 27, 8pm (whatever happens first). We regret absolutely cannot take walk-ins for this program, so please so register in advance.
