Kimball Library News 9/20/11

At the click of a button you can have an education on us! Just look under the library links on our website (www.kimballlibrary.com) for ‘Universal Class.’ Available subjects are: accounting and booking, alternative medicine, arts and photography, business, career training, computers and technology, cooking, crafts and hobbies… And those are just the subjects A-C ! Some sample classes are: Interview skills 101, Medical terminology 101, Photography Basics, Microsoft Office 2007, Wedding Planning 101, Caring for Seniors, Stress Management 101, Writing Basics 101 and much much more. There are over 500 online continuing education courses. You are welcome to enroll in up to 5 classes at a time, and you have up to 6 months to finish each class. You have access to your course 24/7 via the Internet. Attend class and do assignments on your schedule. Each course has a real instructor who you may communicate with using email. All of these courses are free for Kimball Library patrons in good standing.

Also at the click of a button on our website you can download books and transfer them to most e-readers, iPods, or smart phones. Smart phones and iPods have apps that make it really simple. Head to the ‘Downloadable Books’ link and check out the supported ebook devices as well as the list of titles. Not into reading, but into listening? We’ve got you covered there as well with a myriad of choices in downloadable audiobooks. There is a fabulous button on the site called “My HELP!” that can lead you painlessly down the right path. Confused as to what your device can do? We are happy to assist you.

Click for kids? We’ve got TumbleBooks and a TumbleBook library on our website as well. Here you’ll find story books, read-alongs, Tumble tv, puzzles and games, language learning, and nonfiction books. Kids can listen to books or read the text along with the narrator. Parents, you’ll love these stories as well. You can use this on your computer at home or come into the library and use ours. You’ll love the simplicity.

Do you need articles or information for a class? Are you wondering what to read next? Check out our databases at the click of a button. EBSCO Host, NoveList, Kid Search, and more are icons that you may have seen on our website and chosen to ignore. Take some time before you actually need the information to browse around these buttons and see what there is to offer. We have a lot of information to share just on our website alone, and we change up the main page so you’ll see the events that are coming up next. Get educated and stay informed at Kimball Library just with the click of a button!

Are you against button clicking? Do you dislike the word ‘digital’? We have wonderful collection of books with genuine pages, glossy magazines, inky newspapers, rockin’ music, new and classic DVDs, and even more that you do not have to download or get my clicking. You can just come to the library and touch them with your very own hands and bring them home for free. Come. 

Please note that we will be closed on Monday, October 10th, as Columbus Day is observed. Two day loans taken on Friday the 7th will not be due until Tuesday, October 11th. We will be open on Saturday the 8th for our usual 10am-3pm.
