Kimball Library News 9/27/11

AT LAST! Those who have Kindle readers or the Kindle app on the iPod touch or iPhone now can borrow free electronic books right off our website. Just go to www.kimballlibrary.com and click on the icon that says ‘downloadable books.’ Be careful when selecting the eBook format. Users with Sony Readers, Kobos, and Nooks should be selecting the EPUB version of the title. Users with Kindles or Kindle apps on their tablets and smartphones should select the Kindle Book format. It is not possible to select both formats; whichever format you initially choose is the only format you will have access to. If a Nook user selects Kindle and does not have a Kindle account or device, a librarian will need to ask OverDrive's tech support to return the title. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Just a reminder—ebooks are similar to physical books and there are limited copies. If you put yourself on hold for books that you like we may purchase additional titles to keep up with demand. The same holds true for those of you who prefer a hard copy of a book. Please put yourself on reserve or ask us to. Also, in either format let us know of new titles you are seeking that are not available so we can add them to our wish list.
Tie a string on your finger to remind yourself about the Saturday Cinema coming up on October 15th at 10:30am. This is a tale (tail) of spooktacular puppies! Pack up the kids and scoot out if they are at least age 6 with a permission slip signed or stick around and enjoy the show for ages 5 and under. We appreciate your registrations in advance. Please bring movie snacks, candy, or bottled drinks along with pillows if the kids prefer to sack out on the floor. Make our Saturday shows part of your family traditions.

Are you gnarly about words? Do you like to be with other peeps your age to hang and chat with? Competitive, much? Try us one Tuesday night of each month. The teen librarian plans to play word games with teens. The game of the night will vary depending on the number of kids (grades 6-12, please) who register.

Just a few of the ideas: 'Fast Scrabble', Bananagrams, Scattergories, Balderdash, Hangman, Upwords, etc. You are welcome to bring word games from home to teach us even though there will be games here. All games must be able to be completed in roughly one hour. Register your friends. (They don’t have to be Atkinson residents.) Our next ‘Words with Teens’ night is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18th, at 6:30pm. Come and spell your stuff!

Please note that we will be closed on Monday, October 10th, as Columbus Day is observed. Two day loans taken on Friday the 7th will not be due until Tuesday, October 11th. We will be open on Saturday the 8th for our usual 10am-3pm.
