Stop by on Tuesday, November 8th, from 6:30-8pm to be entertained and educated regarding the ‘Granite State Sacrifice during the American Civil War (1861-1865). This program is for history buffs or anyone interested in a good free program.

April 2011 marked the 150th Anniversary of the commencement of the American Civil War. For the next four years, the 150th Anniversary will play out over and over again from the firing on Fort Sumter, out in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina in April of 1861 to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theater in April of 1865. The speaker for the evening will be Steven Robert Closs, author of “Willing Sacrifice: Granite State Valor during the American Civil War 1861-1865”.

The focus of the program is the ‘Fighting Men’ of Atkinson, NH; one of which is a Medal of Honor recipient, who is buried in town and his story is included in Mr. Closs' book. In remembrance of those Granite Staters who sacrificed all for Union and the abolition of slavery, Mr. Closs has been traveling around the State of New Hampshire lecturing on the contributions made by New Hampshire’s valiant sons during that monumental war. Refreshments will be served. This program is sponsored by the Atkinson Historical Society.
