Kimball Library News 8/30/11

Do you want to know how to start the school year right? Teens and tweens should come in on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm to meet up with old friends, study, and spend some time on the computers. Register for individual attention with the teen librarian who is willing to listen to presentations, quiz you with your prepared flash cards, read your papers, etc. You may use our laptops in the teen room so you can be face to face with friends. Make this a regular Thursday night hangout for studying or chilling.

Also, teens should take advantage of our cool book discussion groups. Tweens (grades 6-8) meet on the first Wednesday nights of each month while Teens (grades 9-12) meet the second Wednesday of the month. On September 14 teens will be catching up on the latest at school, eating candy, and discussing the book “Please Ignore Vera Dietz” by A.S. King. This book is for fans of contemporary edgy YA fiction, but the group is for anyone that wants to be involved in library ‘sports.’ Copies are available at the main desk. You do not have to finish the book to participate. Both groups meet from 6:30-7:30pm.

Do you want to know how to start the fall off right? Fall cleaning with some book donations to the library is a good start. Kimball Library accepts book donations year round, but twice a year we urge you to especially clear out what you no longer want and bring them in to us. The Semi-Annual Book and Bake Sale (September 24) is coming up and we’d like to have a large selection for folks to peruse and purchase. We accept books, music, and DVDs in good condition. Please take care to recycle your unwanted items by helping the environment and your local library. Donations can be received during open hours from Monday-Friday (10-8) and Saturday (10-3). If you have large amounts of materials, please call ahead so we can be sure to assist you.

Do you want to know how to be environmentally friendly? Join ‘The Green Scene’! Kids ages 5-10 are welcome on Thursday, September 8, from 3:30-4:30pm for recycling projects. Come in and let your creativity shine.

Do you want to know how to make new friends that like to build? Kids ages 5 and up should register for ‘Legos! Legos!’ on Thursday, September 15, from 3:30-5:00pm. Bring your imagination and we'll supply the Legos!
Do you want to know how to make new friends that like to knit? Knitting gathering has exploded in the mornings (Tuesdays and Fridays) from 10:30am-12:30pm. The evening knitters are seeking new friends to join them on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm. All the knitting circles welcome newcomers and non-residents. Please bring your projects and supplies. All ages are welcome.
